Empowering Young Journalists Through Media Literacy

About the project

"The Voice of Youth" is an Erasmus+ funded project that aims to empower young people (aged 15-30) to develop media literacy skills and confidently express themselves as young journalists. Through a free, multilingual online platform, the project provides 12 interactive courses covering key topics like ethical journalism, critical thinking, fact-checking, and creative content design.

The project encourages youth to publish newspapers or blogs, enabling them to amplify their voices, engage in public discussions, and foster better understanding across generations. Partners from Estonia, Ireland, and Hungary collaborate to create engaging video lessons, worksheets, and evaluation tools to ensure quality learning.

By supporting young people in developing their competencies, the project not only improves their participation in communities but also enhances their future employability and role as credible storytellers.

Team meetings

1

Kick-off Meeting: “And Now It Starts” (Estonia)

The project began with a 2-day meeting in Keila, Estonia, where partners came together to finalize the project details and ensure all team members share a clear vision. Participants, including local youth, defined the 12 course topics, established roles, and createed a communication plan. This meeting set the foundation for smooth collaboration and successful project implementation.

2

Mid-Evaluation Meeting (Ireland)

The second meeting took place in Ireland and focused on evaluating the first set of online course materials. Young people from each partner country tested the content to ensure it is engaging, understandable, and relevant. The team analyzed the feedback, made improvements, and used the insights to guide the creation of the remaining courses.

3

Finalizing and Conclusions (Hungary)

The concluding meeting in Hungary served as an opportunity to evaluate the project results, gather feedback, and finalize the outcomes. Partners reviewed the platform’s usability, shared lessons learned, and planned for future collaboration. The team celebrated achievements and made plans for long-term sustainability of the project’s results.

The Experience of the team

The project provided a valuable and inspiring experience for young people interested in journalism, video creation, and youth work. Participants highlighted the opportunity to develop new skills such as video production, scriptwriting, project coordination, and media literacy. Many found the process of creating videos enjoyable and rewarding, as it allowed them to apply their knowledge and learn through practical, hands-on activities.

Working in a cross-cultural environment was a particularly meaningful aspect of the project. Participants appreciated meeting like-minded young people from different countries, sharing ideas, and broadening their perspectives on journalism and youth work. This international cooperation inspired confidence in engaging with new people, understanding diverse cultures, and exploring innovative ideas.

Several participants mentioned that the project increased their self-confidence and motivated them to take the lead in future initiatives. They expressed enthusiasm for similar projects, recognizing the value of travel, cultural exchange, and skill-building.

Overall, the team’s experience was positive, educational, and empowering. The project not only enhanced their media and communication competencies but also encouraged personal growth, leadership, and a stronger connection to their communities and peers.
